Eatmyink’s 2024 Indy 500 Paparazzi Shots

The grid before the start of the Indy 500 is a marvelous place to be. I always feel a little like Martin Brundle as I snake my way through the crowd of people, cars, stanchions and starter carts—but without having to interview minor celebrities and entertain my viewers in real time.

For some, the grid can be a long delayed reunion. None were so legitimately happy to see each other as former drag racer Darrell Gwynn and 3X Indy 500 winner Johnny Rutherford, seen in the featured photo above. It was a warm, touching moment in a maze of chaos.

Chaos of a different kind can be found in the suites, where the lengthy race delay might have taken a toll on the sobriety of some.

Here’s a selection of photos from all over the facility, but race coverage can be found here

Nowhere was the grid chaos more compact than around McLaren’s Zak Brown and Kyle Larson’s car.

Something Parnelli never had to deal with was making a relevant post just before stepping into the car like Alex Palou here…..
….and then placing his phone in his gal’s Louis Vuitton bag, like Colton Herta.

Eventual winner Josef Newgarden was all business on the grid.
Danica Patrick positively glowed in buttercup yellow, however she did not remember me picking up her dinner tab at Napolese in Indy following her Nationwide debut at Indy in 2012.
Row 6 teams at attention for opening ceremonies.

Santino Ferrucci and his wife, no smartphones visible….
Pace Car driver Ken Griffey Jr.
Felix Rosenqvist and Michael Shank

Great having Saturday lunch with Steve Earwood, Corinne Economaki, and her man Donnie.
Was fun bumping into my old Big Red Liquors boss Mark McAlister and his wife Alora. It had been 40 years since I’d seen this man and there were many stories to tell!
From Chuck D. to Will Power, Flava Flave is a professional sideman. This was on Saturday during the Driver’s Meeting.
Tony Kanaan, Scott Borchetta and Zak Brown at the press conference announcing their Nashville race collaboration.

Great to see 90 year old Dick Simon on the grid!
ARP sales mastermind and Bonneville driver Chris Raschke.
And finally, the photo to end all photos….This young lady may or may not have been in one of the suites….
