AMRA at Indy: Nitro Funnybike

Ryan Peery’s starting line woes didn’t just plague his Top Fuel hopes at the American Motorcycle Racing Association (AMRA)’s first visit to Lucas Oil Raceway Park at Indianapolis for Harley-Davidson drags. The number 1 Nitro Funnybike qualifier seemed to give Jim Doyle the break in the final, as Peery’s .217 reaction time was visibly and audibly late compared to Doyle’s .043.

Ryan Peery’s “Big Nasty” looked nasty indeed at Indy.

Unlike Peery’s Top Fuel final against Andras, Doyle had the better performance on track as well with a 6.98 at 209 to Peery’s 7.03 at 207. “Any time I have to race the ‘Big Nasty’ (Peery’s Funnybike), no matter who is riding it, the race will be tough,” said Doyle. “But I managed to get by Ryan for the win.

“I was looking forward to running Indy. We missed the first race of the year and wasn’t good at the second, so it was important to do well at Indy while trying to figure out my new ignition system. We did make some progress but the bike still isn’t where it needs to be.  I had a good crew that worked hard every round to get the bike back up to line for next the race. We will be at Bristol to do it all over again.”
