Godspeed Ryan Varnes

AMA Pro Racing announced the tragic loss of American Flat Track competitor Ryan Varnes (24) and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Varnes, a Pennsylvania native, was involved in an on-track incident in the American Flat Track Production Twins Main Event at Weedsport Speedway on Saturday evening. On-scene emergency personnel responded to the incident immediately and transported Varnes to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“The Varnes family has been a staple in the flat track community for decades, and they need our prayers during this difficult time,” said Gene Crouch, COO of AMA Pro Racing. “Ryan was the class of the field, both on track and off track. His bright smile, perpetual optimism and loyal friendship will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

“The amount of outpouring love, support and prayers for Ryan and our family have been emotionally overwhelming,” the Varnes family said in a Facebook post. “Thank you to each and every one of you who text, called, prayed privately and publicly, and who posted their love and support on social media. It fills our hearts to see all these candid pictures of Ryan. We love you all for this.

“Now we have to say the words that no parents should ever have to speak of. Today our son, boyfriend, brother, hero and friend has gone with the angels. Our hearts are completely broken. We are so proud of the man you have become Ryan Ethan Varnes, so proud. You have accomplished so much in your 24yrs. We love you and will miss you. Forever and always. We find comfort and solace in knowing Ryan is an organ donor. That he will go on living and helping those in need.

“Tear it up with your buddy Kyle up there! Babe will get ya dialed in…Godspeed Son My hero #68.”
